INTRODUCTION:
Ed Murray served as Mayor of Seattle from 2014 until his resignation in September 2017. During 2017, multiple men publicly accused Murray of sexual abuse they alleged occurred years earlier, including during periods when some of the accusers were teenagers. Murray denied the allegations. He ended his campaign for reelection in May 2017 and resigned as mayor in September.
The Murray Files bring together court documents, historical records, a documentary timeline, and links to published reporting concerning those allegations and the events that followed. Some of the materials also address Murray’s earlier years in Oregon, including his role as a foster parent and child-welfare records later described or quoted in litigation and news reporting.
The purpose of this collection is not to make findings or draw conclusions. Allegations contained in lawsuits and news reports remain allegations unless otherwise established.
Whenever possible, we have prioritized original court filings, government records, and other primary-source materials. Published news reports and historical sources are included to provide chronology and context.
We encourage readers to review the source materials themselves, consider the nature and origin of each document, and reach their own conclusions.
The materials on this page include or reference court filings, government records, historical records, published reporting, and other source materials provided for informational, documentation, and public-awareness purposes. Some materials contain allegations, statements, findings, or claims made by third parties. Publication by The Caution Project does not constitute an independent assertion or determination regarding their accuracy, interpretation, or legal significance. Readers are encouraged to review the original source materials and draw their own conclusions.
Source Documents & Published Reporting
The timeline above provides an overview of the events and records included in the Murray Files. For readers who want to examine the underlying materials more closely, we have provided separate pages for the court documents referenced in this collection, along with links to published reporting from the time.
The court-document pages provide access to the filings themselves and identify the nature and date of each document. As with all court filings, the contents should be read in context: a filing may contain allegations, arguments, statements, or representations made by the parties and does not, by itself, establish those statements as fact.
The published articles are included to provide additional chronology, contemporaneous reporting, and context. The Caution Project does not adopt or independently verify every statement or conclusion contained in third-party reporting.
